“Those who seem to be neutral at present, in many former lives have variously been friends and foes – they’ve done me harm in anger, and also, infinite times, done me good with love.
Therefore, among all these migrating beings, which should I hate, and which should I be attached to? Let me now not discriminate liked and hated, but have equal mind towards all of them, as my friends.”
Verse 310-311 from The Essence of Nectar – Stages of the Path to Enlightenment by Kongpo Lama Yeshe Tsondru, as published in The Essential Nectar: Meditations on the Buddhist Path by Geshe Rabten. Edited and verse translation by Martin Wilson. Wisdom Publications (currently out of print).
