Foreign exchange agencies, which convert a variety of currencies, are widely available in India these days, as are ATM’s for your international debit and credit cards. Some ATM’s charge a small fee, and most have a daily withdrawal limit.
ATM: In Mundgod Tibetan settlement, there is only one ATM currently working – it is located inside of the Syndicate Bank in Drepung Monastery and is only available during the bank’s limited working hours. There are no ATM’s in Gaden Monastery. The ATM in Camp 3 is currently broken and not expected to be functioning by the time of the teachings. There are a few ATM’s in Mundgod town.
Western Union & currency exchange agencies: There are several of these offices in the Tibetan settlement and Mundgod town.
During the time of His Holiness’ teachings, these ATM’s and offices may be very busy and sometimes run out of money, so it may be more convenient for you to obtain/change most of your money in larger cities such as Hubli and Bangalore before travelling to Mundgod.
