Today’s Lamrim Quote – 4 September 2012

Je Tsong Khapa
Lobsang Drakpa
(1357-1419)

“As Shantideva says, you have been sick for a long time with the illness of the afflictions such as attachment–an illness that is long-lasting, intractable, and causes strong suffering…. Sick persons know that their illness cannot be cured without taking the medicine prescribed by the doctor. They then take the medicine. Likewise, earnestly engage in practice after you have seen that you cannot vanquish such afflictions as attachment without putting into practice the instructions given by the instructor. Do not devote yourself to just piling up words in great numbers without engaging in practice.”

From The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment: The Lam Rim Chen Mo by Tsong Khapa. Translated by the Lamrim Chenmo Translation Committee. Snow Lion/Shambhala Publications.
