Today’s Lamrim Quote – 5 November 2012

Kongpo Lama
Yeshe Tsondru
(1761 – 1816)

“Children are disturbed by waves of suffering because they cherish themselves. Haven’t the Buddhas attained the state of perfect bliss because they cherish others? So, if I wish never to suffer, I must give up self-cherishing. If I wish to enjoy unending happiness, I must strive to cherish others. May all the sufferings of my mothers together with the causes of their suffering ripen on me, and thus may they be free from all suffering and its causes. May all of the temporary and ultimate happiness together with any virtue I have ripen on these beings, and thus may they all possess supreme bliss.”

From The Essence of Nectar by Yeshe Tsondru. Translated by Geshe Lobsang Tharchin with Benjamin and Deborah Alterman. Library of Tibetan Work and Archives.
